Recognition, Evaluation, and Control of Legionella

The CMS Mandate

The CMS Mandate is a directive to reduce the risk of Legionella in healthcare facility water systems and to prevent the outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease, a severe type of pneumonia. Legionella is a type of bacterium most commonly found on surfaces exposed to warm water within building piping systems. Effective June 2017, the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a directive requiring healthcare facilities to develop and adhere to policies and procedures that inhibit microbial growth in building water systems to reduce the risk of growth and spread of Legionella and other opportunistic pathogens in building water systems.

Alliance Environmental Group (AEG)
, an F.W. Webb Company, can provide your facility with a comprehensive Legionella monitoring and sampling plan in accordance with the CMS Mandate and other government and industry guidelines advanced by organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

Total Response Approach to Legionella Control

AEG’s approach to the evaluation, control, and treatment of Legionella colonization and amplification is not constrained by a specific equipment manufacturer or treatment technology. As a consulting agency, we select the most efficacious and cost-effective approach for your site.

Our experienced microbiologists, scientists, and engineers develop comprehensive assessment plans, conduct thorough testing and analysis, create preventive maintenance strategies and provide multiple treatment recommendations.

Complex building systems require precisely engineered control systems to be most effective. The selection of inappropriate treatment technologies often results in unnecessary and costly expenditures for institutions.
